Bionic Eye Approved by FDA

As the title of this post implies, the FDA has approved an artificial retina for commercial production and human use.

Science has produced several solutions for problems of sensory deprivation due to disease, genetic malfunction, or birth defect in the past, such as cochlear implants.  Now that we are reverse-engineering the visual pathways in addition to the physiology of the eye, we can expect that BMI (brain-machine interfacing) will become useful for mediating problems that don't occur with the actual eye, but with the neurons that govern how vision is aggregated and processed in the brain.
